History
The history of Cashman Dredging dates back to the 1970's when our founder Jay Cashman started a construction company in Boston. Throughout the 1980's and 1990's Jay Cashman, Inc. grew it's expertise and resources to be one of the preeminent heavy civil and marine contractors in the Northeast. During this time, Cashman completed smaller dredging projects primarily using mechanical dredges.
In the early 2000's, Cashman Dredging started growing into the leader in the industry it is today. After building it's first large dredge with a Lieberr 995 excavator, Cashman completed the $36M Kill Van Kull 8 contract for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). During this time, our company also completed countless smaller navigation and environmental projects for private and public entities, reinforcing our depth of capabilities and ability to complete nearly any project.
In 2009, General Electric recognized these capabilities when they selected Cashman Dredging to perform the challenging task of removing more than 250,000 yd^3 of PCB impacted material from the Hudson River and later selected Cashman to perform dredging for the second phase of the project, which included dredging of over 300,000 yd^3 of PCB impacted material. Phase I and the beginning of phase II were a success and in 2011 General Electric once again selected Cashman to continue dredging operations for phase II in 2012.
While Cashman is a leader in environmental dredging, the USACE also selected Cashman to deepen Newark Bay and Arthur Kill to 50 ft using an array of large backhoe, clamshell dredges, and drilling and blasting equipment in 2010. This critical project will allow the port to accept post-Panama ships upon completion of the new Panama Canal.
In 2011 the USACE awarded Cashman the contract to complete the next phase four of deepening on the adjacent Arthur Kill channel. In 2010, Cashman acquired the Hopper Dredge Atchafalaya, making it one of only four firms in the country who are able to perform this specialized type of dredging. Today, Cashman Dredging is regarded as a leader in dredging with the equipment and resources to complete nearly any project. Whether it's remediating PCB's on the Hudson River or building beaches in Florida, Cashman delivers.
